Public Information: Page Too... |
Welcome to Pleasanton Unified's Page Too . . . Similar to other publications where some stories make the front page and others do not, our Page Too . . . has information that is of ongoing interest to the community but just might not be "breaking news." We hope this will be a useful resource for parents, students, staff, and the community. And, yes, the spelling is intentional . . .
FERPA. the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, is a federal privacy law that gives parents certain protections with regard to their children's education records. Informational brochures from the Department of Education are available about education records and balancing privacy and safety. |
MRSA infection is a type of Staph infection that is resistant to certain antibiotics which makes it harder to treat. Staph infections, including MRSA, occur most frequently among persons in hospitals and healthcare facilities (such as nursing homes and dialysis centers) who have weakened immune systems. However, Staph or MRSA infections in the community can occur in otherwise healthy people. The symptoms are usually manifested as skin infections, such as pimples and boils. If you notice your child has a rash that is red, swollen, painful, or has pus or other drainage, please contact his/her health care provider immediately. Usually an affected person is no longer communicable after being on antibiotics for at least 24 hours, and students may return to school after being cleared by a physician.
Here are some tips from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on preventing Staph infection:
- Wash your hands often or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Keep your cuts and scrapes clean and cover them with bandages.
- Do not touch other people’s cuts or bandages.
- Do not share personal items like towels.
In the Pleasanton Unified School District, custodial staff follows accepted protocols for cleaning school sites, including use of hospital-grade disinfectant and daily cleaning of bathrooms, locker rooms, etc. There have been occurrences in our District, but never one to the best of our knowledge where the infection has spread from student to student. If you have any more questions, please contact the the Pupil Services Department at 426-4290. For more information on MRSA, please ask your health care provider or read a pamphlet from the California Department of Education in English or Spanish. |
