When I assign a project to you I will post samples of past projects. This is meant to encourage you to go beyond what has been done in the past. Any attempt to copy or plagirize will result in a zero on the entire assignment.

Below are examples of previous years' Center of Mass projects. DO NOT COPY THESE PROJECTS but use them as reference and inspiration. Keep in mind the specifics of the project.

Even if is a simple shape, you can make your project elaborate by being creative with how you decorate it.

At left, Bambi was hand painted.

At right, this flamingo has real feathers and the legs added to the difficulty level.

Adding weight is a good way to increase your point value. You can use pennies or washers, basically anything! Just know that wherever you put weight, the center of mass will move towards it.

You must do the plumbob method of finding the center of mass after you have added weights!

At left, a large cutout of California. The washers correspond to the population density of the individual counties!

At right, adding a coffee cup to this Gingerbread man shifted his center of mass towards the coffee cup.

While simple characters will "fit the bill" like this Homer ( at left ) you can always increase your point value by making them larger or adding weights.

At right, a hand drawn Jack Sparrow. Even though it was a simple shape, it balanced, had extra weights and obviously took a long time.

Be careful of extensions! Characters that are bent or oddly twisted could have their Center of Mass located outside their actual mass!

At right, Tigger.

At left, this Lumiere had to add weights so that the Center of Mass was on a peice that could balance.
